After starting in the insurance industry as a Professional Indemnity broker, James joined Chaucer Syndicates as part of their 2006 Graduate intake.

The program consisted of four secondments in diverse areas across the business, and then a year working in Risk Management. Following a successful internship at the University of Washington Medical Centre, Seattle, James took up a permanent role as Assistant Underwriter in Chaucer’s highly regarded Institutional Healthcare Liability team in 2008. The team underwrote a large portfolio of mostly lead-layer, US and International Hospital business.

He then moved to Swiss Re in 2011 and was soon promoted to Senior Underwriter, having been instrumental in the development of Swiss Re’s lead layer Healthcare product offering.

James then moved to Barbican Insurance Group in September 2018 as Underwriting Manager, with overall responsibility for the Healthcare class of business at Syndicate 1955.
